This is an excellent book to familiarize yourself with the technical specs of european beer styles. Have you ever wondered what was the definition of a kolsch or a lambic, this book will tell you. sadly it was written in the nineties so the american beer information is woefully out of date having missed the second wave of american craft brewing. Though since the traditional european styles are just that traditional it will help you get a firm grasp on the various beer styles found throughout europe, which will definitely come in handy if you're studying for a cicerone certification. Lots of pictures and small type make it a bit of a slog to read but it makes up for it by being densely packed with technical information. Not a complete reference by any means but a great book. Shares allot of content with another book on amazon because it is an older version so i ended up giving the older copy to friend.I actually bought this to study for the cicerone exam and am disappointed to mention that I did not pass needed to know more about kegging tapping and maintenance of tap and keg systems.Every michael jackson books is a must to have for brewers.Disappointed with this book. Arrived on time and well packaged but in very poor condition. Certainly not as advertised and much worse than expected. This is a hard cover volume - the cover and spine are almost separated from the body of text and several end papers, front and back, torn and almost separated. I am really disappointed.Good read with a German lager. Otherwise it is a handy reference on the obscure details of beer making. YesThis book is a classic. It is extremely information dense. It will serve as a great reference for any beer enthusiast.IF YOU LIKE BEER HERE IS YOUR BOOKOld but still relevant with tons of information on all most all styles of beer.Decent quality.well written and good information
